PNW Songbook at The Winterblue Room – to a song potluck.
Doors 6:30pm. Downbeat at 7p. FREE. Bring a song (link to recording and lyric sheet), we’ll chart it, learn it and have some fun arranging it. The goal: discover and appreciate songs written by PNW artists while having fun making music together. Please bring someone else’s song. RSVP required.
What you can expect
We start to gather at 6:30 – we socialize, get situated and see what songs we have to choose from. We start making music at 7p and go until 9p.
Process: We listen to a recording of the song and the person who brought the song might share something about the artist and what they like about the song.
As a group, we’ll chart the song (if it doesn’t come charted).
Then we’ll play through it (the person who brings the song will most likely sing it) and work on learning/analyzing the song structure. Along the way we might change a thing here and there – try different arrangement ideas. You might also pick up a different instrument (we have bass, electric guitars, piano, percussion available) or add harmonies.
We play through each tunes several times – working together to refine and polish the arrangement.
We spend about 30-40min a song
We encourage everyone to bring a song by a PNW songwriter.
This is a community event and only works when folks bring a song. If you bring a charted song, please bring about 5 copies and a link where we can hear a recording. If you aren’t comfortable with charting a song, you can bring the lyrics and a link to a recording and we’ll chart it together as a group! We’ll be adding more resources to find PNW artists.
